From injury to inspiration: LUCY RONALD JOINS STREET LEAGUE
We sat down with Lucy, our new Youth and Community Coach, to learn more about what inspired her to join Street League. With a rich background in sport and a deep commitment to helping others, Lucy shared her journey, motivations, and hopes for the future.
”Football has been a huge part of my life from a young age, and it’s shaped who I am both on and off the field. That’s why I felt a real calling to work with Street League - it’s a perfect fit for me. I’ve known people involved with the organisation from my time playing club football and they were always so passionate and dedicated to the cause. Honestly, it’s been a goal of mine to work here for ages. I would have loved to be part of something like this when I was a teenager.
Having played for Glasgow Women and Hibernian FC, I’m currently signed with Motherwell F.C. Women, where I’ve developed invaluable skills—leadership, communication, resilience, and teamwork. These values, all forged through sport, are things I’m now passionate about passing on to others. I’ve captained teams, faced personal challenges, and even worked through a major injury in the last year, so I know the power of resilience and the reality of facing a tough job market. I want to use my experiences to help young people build confidence, discipline, and purpose, especially those who struggle with self-belief or social barriers.
Even in my short time with Street League, I’ve been thrilled to witness the weekly transformations young people go through. It’s rewarding to see them become more confident and better equipped to face life’s challenges head-on. I genuinely believe in the power of sport as a tool to empower young people beyond the field, giving them skills they can use in every area of life.
I’m also passionate about supporting the growth of women’s football. The game is moving in such a positive direction, and as a female athlete in a traditionally male-dominated sport, I’m determined to be a role model for young women. I want them to know they can succeed in any arena.
For me, success is seeing the young people I work with thrive, grow, and feel ready for whatever’s next—whether that’s in sport, a career, or any goal they set for themselves. Each small step forward keeps me motivated, and I’m driven by the belief that resilience and hard work really can turn dreams into reality.”
